Earth's Moon Reveals An Ancient Secret. Many astronomers think that during an ancient era, termed the Late Heavy Bombardment, our young Moon was violently battered by a marauding multitude of invading asteroids that crashed onto its newly formed surface. This attack of pelting objects from space occurred about 4 billion years ago, and the shower of crashing asteroids excavated impact craters, and also slashed open deep fissures, in the lunar crust. This sustained shower of merciless impacts increased lunar porosity, and opened up an intertwining network of large seams under the Moon's surface.

Now, the fishing magazines and sites around the Internet will have you believe that the relationship between solar/lunar cycles and fishing is much more complex than I have explained here. In reality it's not. In fact, if you try to follow most of the charts out there, you will find no direct correlation between those charts and the number and size of fish you catch.

have been fishing for more than twenty five years for all of the main species of freshwater fish including; trout, walleye, large and small mouthed bass, catfish, pike, and even muskie and in that time have learned one simple fact that has helped me become a much more successful angler. That fact is that the weather and moon have an incredible impact on the activity level of fish and the more active the fish are, the more apt the are to bite your offering when you are fishing.

A Moon For Makemake. The observations of April 2015, that unveiled Makemake's tiny moon, were made with HST's Wide Field Camera 3. HST's ability to observe faint objects close to bright ones, along with its sharp resolution, enabled the astronomers to spot the moon that was being masked by Makemake's glare. The announcement of the dim little moon's existence was made on April 26, 2016 in a Minor Planet Electronic Circular.

Once in a blue moon. Technically, it takes the moon an average of 29.53 days to travel around the earth. Most months are longer than this. So, it is possible to have more than one full moon in one month. When this happens, the second moon is called a "calendar blue moon." Of course, this is a simple rule. So, let's complicate it!

The Kuiper Belt is situated beyond the orbit of the beautiful, blue, and banded giant gaseous planet, Neptune--the outermost of the eight major planets of our Sun's family. Pluto is a relatively large inhabitant of this region, and it was--initially--classified as the ninth major planet from our Sun after its discovery by the American astronomer Clyde Tombaugh (1906-1997) in 1930. However, the eventual realization among astronomers that the frozen little "oddball" that is Pluto, is really only one of numerous other icy bodies inhabiting the Kuiper Belt, forced the IAU to formally define the term "planet" in 2006--and poor, pitiful Pluto lost its lofty designation of "major planet" only to be re-classified as a mere minor one--a demoted dwarf planet.
